Specificity: Cytokeratins is a subunit of human glandular epithelia. It has 20 different types dividing into two subgroups: class I (acidic protein), class II (basic protein). Cytokeratin is a polymer composed of class I and class II keratin. Cell keratin 19 (CK19) is one of the lowest molecular weight of about 400 KDa. CK19 is widely distributed in normal tissues, as lamellar or squamous epithelium. In malignant epithelial cells, the degradation of the cell that makes a lot of CK19 fragment released into the blood, the soluble fragments can be recognized by strains of monoclonal antibody ks19.1(epitope localized on aa. 311-335 (QSQLSMKAALEDTLAETEARFGAQLA) of the α-helical fragment) and BM19.21 ( epitope localized on aa. 346-359 (LADVRADSERQNQE) of the α-helical fragment) so called CYFRA21 - 1. CYFRA21-1 molecular weight of about 30000 Da. CYFRA21-1 content is rich in malignant lung cancer especially in lung squamous cell carcinoma.
