What soluble ST2 is
ST2 (also IL1RL1) is the receptor for IL-33. In its membrane-bound form it participates in Th2-type immune signalling; in its soluble form (sST2) it acts as a decoy receptor and circulates as a biomarker of cardiac stress, fibrosis and remodelling. Elevated sST2 predicts adverse outcomes in heart failure independently of BNP and troponin.
Why laboratories buy recombinant sST2
Research groups use recombinant sST2 for IL-33 binding studies, cell-stimulation controls, and as antigen or calibrator material when building sST2 immunoassays.
